Types of Hommos: Styles, Toppings & Traditions
There is no single universal presentation of hommos. Recipes and serving styles vary by household, restaurant, region and personal preference.

Different types of hommos are better understood as variations in preparation, texture, flavour and presentation rather than a rigid official list.
Classic smooth hommos
A smooth, creamy texture is a familiar benchmark. The balance of chickpeas, tahini and lemon is especially important when the base is the focus.
Rustic styles
Some preparations retain more texture. A less finely blended result can feel more substantial and lets the chickpea flavour remain prominent.
Toppings and finishing
Olive oil, whole chickpeas, herbs and spices can change the appearance and flavour without changing the fundamental identity of the dish.
Serving traditions
Hommos can be presented as a central mezze dish, a dip alongside bread, or an accompaniment to a wider meal.
